1) Family effects. Panic disorders seem to run in families. In various studies involving twins, there is a correlation between one twin having a disorder and another twin having ta disorder as well. This could have a combination of genetics as well as the external environment that the children grew up in. To be clear, many people do not suffer from panic disorder even though one of their family members suffices from it, and vice versa.

2) Significant life disturbances. They could be a result of severe loss like the loss of a loved one, relationship, business, or career. It could also be someone undergoing other significant changes in life from what they have been accustomed to.

3) Passivity. There has been an interest in this cause as more and research are showing a relationship between having a passive and non-assertive communication style and panic disorder. A number of panic disorder sufferers exhibit a very passive communication style when they interact with others. They prefer to silently agree with the directions of others. That seems to affect some people over time leading to panic attacks.

4) Phobias. A panic disorder could have a result caused by a phobia the sufferer has. When they are repeatedly exposed to the object of situation that they have a chronic phobia with, it could trigger a panic attack.
